K-State experts value precision
Experts at Kansas State University advise that
the right feeder design and proper feeder adjustment can help improve
feed-to-gain ratios by.2 or more. Two points earn you an extra $2.20
per grow-finish pig or $330 per feeder per year (50 pigs x 3 turns).
That's an extra $.80 per nursery pig or $260 per feeder per year
(50 pigs x 6.5 turns).
Achieving the proper feeder adjustment requires
careful monitoring of feed pans. K-State experts say only one-third
of the pan or less should be covered with feed. Too much feed in
the pan causes waste. Too little reduces gains.
So selecting a feeder that can be precisely adjusted
is a must. Some feeder adjustment mechanisms are designed for only
a few, pre-set choices or "clicks." One click usually equals about
an 1/8 of an inch change on the feed gate. That's a large increment
when you are metering feed that's ground into particles less than
a millimeter in diameter.
In addition to precision feed metering, Farmweld's
moving feed gate allows pigs enough play to easily work the feed
below the agitator. So feed flows evenly, with minimum plugging.
Stainless steel hardware adjusts freely for the long life of the
feeder.
The right design for feeding
comfort
Farmweld Jumbo Feeders are perfect for pigs from
7 to 280# (3.2 to 127.3 kg), which means they are ideal for standard
grow-finish or wean-to-finish barns. Farmweld Jumbo Feeders offer
plenty of head and shoulder room for maximum pig comfort. Feed spaces
are 14" wide (356 mm) and 12" deep (308 mm), so even the largest
pigs can stand and eat in a natural position.
Solid dividers reduce fighting and improve performance.
K-State researchers demonstrated that solid dividers reduce sort
loss to add $.84 per pig or $113 per feeder (based on 50 pigs per
feeder and 2.7 turns) in revenue.
The solid dividers also keep earlyweaned pigs
from getting trapped in the trough. The low 4 3/4" (122 mm) front
lip makes it easy for baby pigs to step into the feeder and eat.
And the wide feed spaces promote side-by-side eating, which experts
say facilitates good social behavior.
Built to last
Farmweld feeders are fully welded and 100% #304
stainless steel. That makes them highly durable and resistant to
corrosion and damage. Plus, they clean out easily and thoroughly.
Reinforced corners and completely hemmed edges mean fewer chances
of injury for you and your pigs.
Precision metering also available for nurseries
The same precision adjustment mechanism that's
standard on the Farmweld Jumbo Feeder is also standard on the Farmweld
Nursery Feeder. Farmweld Nursery Feeders can be adjusted accurately
for various types and consistencies of feed used in today's nurseries.
Choose Farmweld feeders for ultimate pig comfort and accurate,
precision adjustment.
