Never better time for efficiency.
Merriam-Webster defines the word efficient as productive without waste. Surely, there has never been a time hog producers have benefited more from feeders that fit that description.
With record high feed prices and lagging hog
prices, producers can’t afford to use feeders that
allow even small amounts of feed waste. It is
simply too costly. That’s true whether a producer
is replacing old feeders in an existing barn or
building a new facility. There are several factors
that contribute to superior efficiency, regardless
of whether you prefer wet or dry feeders:
Proper head room design. Feeders should
provide ample head and shoulder room so even
the largest pigs can eat comfortably. When feed
spaces are too small, pigs are forced to move in
and out of the feeder to eat. That causes feed to
spill on the floor, wasted.
Accurate top adjustment. Maintaining
proper feeder adjustment is essential to matching
feed flow with pig eating behavior. The
adjustment systems must allow for fine-tuning
for younger, less experienced pigs or more
aggressive eaters. And once adjusted, the feed
agitator should remain adjusted as pigs work the
feeders.
Rugged durability. Feeders take the impact
of heavy use (and sometimes abuse) by large,
active animals. If feeders are bent or damaged,
feed can be lost from the trough and wasted.
High quality materials and outstanding
craftsmanship are essential to keeping feeders in
top shape for years and years.
Efficiency – the Merriam-Webster kind – is a core
benefit we build into all of our feeders at
